This is one of those things I get all excited about, new photographic material of Marilyn Monroe. Photographer, Illustrator, painter and film director Len Stecker forgot all about them, until his son reminded him of the fact that he once took the pictures together with writer Carl Sandberg. I think the pictures are just to die for, Marilyn all relaxed and stunningly beautiful, the most gorgeous flower in the bloom of her life.

Len Steckler shot the black-and-white images of Monroe when she unexpectedly arrived at his apartment in December 1961, to visit his friend, Pulitzer-prize winning poet Carl Sandburg.

The Story:
Marilyn was three hours late, but had an excuse. She had been at the hairdresser, trying to get her hair color to match Carl’s.

So began a remarkable meeting of two genuine American icons. One, a three-time Pulitzer Prize winning author and poet. The other later named “the sexiest woman of the 20th Century” by Playboy magazine.

Carl Sandburg was 83. Marilyn Monroe was 35. That afternoon, as the hours passed (and the alcohol flowed), the bonds of this unique friendship were being formed, but would end tragically just eight months later, with Monroe’s death.
